 The PCA Director of Infusion Services plans, implements, and oversees the PCA sterile and non-sterile compounding program with a focus on improving the operational and clinical offerings in the Long Term Care market.  This position will develop tools and processes to support the day-to-day operations, customer support, reimbursement, marketing, and growth in this area for the company.  This position will work with PCA pharmacy locations and teams to support their goals and objectives for both sterile and non-sterile compounding.



Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Plans, implements, and oversees the pharmacies clinical and operational activities within the sterile and non-sterile compounding departments.
  2. Leads the sterile and non-sterile compounding teams with the implementation of departmental standard operating procedures.
  3. Evaluates the workflow and delivery of services to ensure company goals and objectives are being met.
  4. Develops and presents relevant work instructions, training tools, and educations materials for the sterile and non-sterile compounding areas of the pharmacy to foster and promote professional development.
  5. Assists with the proper training and compliance with state and federal regulations and guidelines.
  6. Conducts pharmacy site visits routinely and as needed, provides communication on matters of importance using detailed observations, recommendations for improvement, and updates or follow-up from previous communications.
  7. Provides support, assistance and direction with clinical dosing and monitoring of parenteral medications.
  8. Acts as a clinical pharmacological resource in answering questions/requests of health care professionals and counseling patents on drug therapies.
  9. Develops staff pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff and health care professionals.
  10. Develops understanding of PDPM and the impact on infusion medications, reimbursement and clinical protocols including following market and legislative advancements and changes.
  11. Works with Business Development and Operations teams to create strategic goals and company objectives around customer support, education, and training to establish an effective infusion services program.
  12. Develops strategy in conjunction with Business Development to identify key service offerings to our customer base that support growth by identifying and meeting customer goals and objectives. 
  13. Coordinates with the Business Development and Marketing teams to develop sales and marketing material with a focus on infusion services.
  14. Creates a rapport with regulatory agencies, professional organizations, teaching institutions, and other leaders to promote the PCA’s professional image and culture.
  15. Completes pharmacy operational requirements by organizing and directing technicians’ and pharmacists’ workflow; verifying their ordering, preparation and labeling of pharmaceuticals.
  16. Protects patients and technicians by ensuring adherence to infection-control protocols.
  17. Travel including overnight stay as necessary.
  18. Meets Expectations of Excellence for position.
  19. Supports pharmacy, customer, departmental goals and the overall objectives of the Company.
  20. Complies with all laws, regulations and standards of ethical conduct.
  21. Performs all job duties with a friendly positive and team-oriented approach.
  22. Maintains required licenses or certifications in good standing with the State.
  23. Complies with all Company policies, procedures, rules and standards. 

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices involved in compounding and dispensing of prescriptions.
  • Pharmaceuticals, drugs and narcotics.
  • Calculation of doses and the preparation and use of percentage and stock solutions.
  • Clinical applications involving parenteral and compounded therapies.
  • SNF Reimbursement systems including PDPM, Medicare Part B/D and Medicaid or the ability to develop an understanding of each.
  • Long Term Care Pharmacy and Skilled Nursing Home Regulations.
  • JCAHO principles and guidelines.
  • Inventory Control and related recordkeeping.
  • Compliance with external regulatory agencies and organizations for all areas of responsibility.
